A1521 Accelerometer with CR6 Datalogger

Bushry May 5, 2017 06:37 AM

I kindly request following clarification:
Can I use the  A1521 Accelerometer (http://bridgetest.com/product/sensors/vibration-sensors/) with CR6 Datalogger ?

Is AVW200 2-Channel Vibrating-Wire Analyzer Module necessary to above task?

The AVW200 Analyzer is designed to measure a special class of sensors called "Vibrating Wire Sensors".

This accelerometer is not a "Vibrating Wire" sensor, and so the AVW200 cannot be used to measure it.

The measurement of "vibration" on a surface, etc. is a different measurement altogether than measuring a Vibrating-wire

sensor (which are typically measuring pressure, strain, extension, tilt, temperature, etc.)

Most accelerometers are either resistive bridge (Excitation followed by measurement of resistance) or constant-power (Voltage measurement). So I think that the CR6 could measure it directly.

However, you should be aware that the CR6 has 1000Hz as its fastest sample rate, and so the response on the

sensor would be 500Hz or less. Any vibration or accelleration spikes/events that occur faster than 500Hz wouldn't

be measured. If you need a response above 500Hz, you will need to use the CR9000X datalogger.

My recommendation is that you contact your local Campbell Support team and have a chat about your application, etc.
