Overview

The CC5MPX-Z is a high-resolution digital network camera with video capabilities. The zoom lens       (10-40mm) provides a field of view of 9° to 35°. A window defroster option is available for use with the CC5MPX-Z.  It requires little power, making it ideal for battery-powered installations.

The camera can produce images of up to 5 megapixels, and has a rugged environmental case that allows it to be used outside in extremes of temperature. It is compatible with Campbell Scientific dataloggers. An SD memory card for image storage is available as an option.

Technical Description

The CC5MPX-Z is Campbell Scientific’s first high resolution digital network camera with video capabilities. It produces JPG images with a resolution of up to 5 megapixels, and shoots videos with a resolution of up to 720P. The CC5MPX-Z can function as a stand-alone camera or can be connected to a Campbell Scientific datalogger or another PakBus® device. Several power conserving modes allow the CC5MPX-Z to be used in remote, battery-powered installations.

Designed to work in harsh environments, the CC5MPX-Z operates at temperatures as low as -40°C and as high as 60°C. It has an integrated environmentally sealed enclosure that protects the camera from moisture and high-humidity. The integrated enclosure also eliminates the time required to install the camera in a separate enclosure.

The CC5MPX-Z has several options for image acquisition and storage. You can take still images or videos based on an internal timer, motion detection, or a trigger from an external PakBus device (such as a datalogger). The images or videos can then be stored on an SD card, saved in a datalogger’s memory, sent to a PC via email, or transmitted to an FTP server.

Compatibility

Mounting

The L18549 Camera Mounting Kit is used to mount the CC5MPX camera to a CM202, CM204, or CM206 crossarm. Th e crossarm then attaches to a tripod, tower, or user-supplied pole (1.0-in. to 2.1-in. outer diameter). The bracket’s design facilitates the aiming of the camera.

Datalogger Considerations

The CC5MPX is compatible with any PakBus datalogger that has 2 MB or greater of on-board memory. The datalogger must have a current operating system.

Compatible Contemporary Dataloggers

CR200(X) Series CR800/CR850 CR1000 CR3000 CR5000 CR7X CR9000X

Compatible Retired Dataloggers

CR500 CR510 CR10 CR10X 21X CR23X CR9000

Notes:
*The CR510, CR10X, and CR23X must be the -2M version and must use the PakBus operating system.

Connections

The CC5MPXPWRCBL-L Power and I/O Cable connects the camera to:

  • Power supply
  • COM port of a CR800, CR850, CR1000, or CR3000 datalogger
  • MD485 Multidrop Modem (for connecting more than one camera to a datalogger or if long cable lengths are required)
  • PC (for configuring camera via the Device Configuration utility; also requires the DB9M-TERM interface that is shipped with the camera)

An Ethernet cable is required to configure the camera. Typically, the RJENVCBL-L Environmental Cable is used. The Ethernet cable connects the camera to a network router, cellular modem, or laptop. With this connection, the user can access a web interface that:

  • Allows adjustment of camera targeting/focusing
  • Supports camera configuration
  • Displays camera information, system status, date and time
